October 14, 2010 – KING-TV, Seattle - Family Embraces “Princess Boy”:  The Kilodavis family talks about how they came to accept and embrace their son, five year-old Dyson, who likes to dress up like a princess. October 7, 2010 – WASHINGTON, DC - More than half of transgender and gender non-conforming people who were bullied, harassed or assaulted in school because of their gender identity have attempted suicide, according to just-released findings from the National Transgender Discrimination Survey, conducted by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and National Center for Transgender Equality.   “… my suicide attempt had a lot to do with the fact that I felt hopeless and alone in regards to my gender identity.” - Survey respondent   More button

September 28, 2010 – SFGate:
School robs teen of homecoming king title
Oakleigh Reed received the most votes for homecoming king at Mona Shores High School in Muskegon, Mich.
The transgender teen, who friends call “Oak,” let the school community know he was running for homecoming king on Facebook.

August 31, 2010 – Transgender Equality: Moving Forward on Accurate Identification – The new passport policy announced by the State Department in June will make a difference in the lives of many transgender people around the country. Many transgender people who previously were unable to do so can now obtain identification that accurately reflects who they are, and makes it less likely that they will encounter discrimination or harassment .    More button

Mason Crest, an educational publishing company, will this fall launch a pioneering series of books that seeks to empower LGBT students — and educate other young adults on the LGBT community. The series, “The Gallup’s Modern Guide to Gay, Lesbian & Transgender Life” will be available in September.   More button
